The grounds of the C17 Chilworth Manor create a wonderful tapestry, a jewel of an C18 terraced walled garden, topiary, herbaceous borders, sculptures, mature trees and stew ponds that date back a 1000 yrs. A fabulous, peaceful garden for all the family to wander and explore or just to relax and enjoy! Idyllic 5 acre woodland garden. Plantsman’s collection of rhododendrons and azaleas inc rare species collected in the Himalayas and hybrids raised by the family. Everything from alpine dwarfs to architectural large leaved trees. Ponds, stream and companion plantings inc sorbus, magnolias and Japanese acers, and many recent new plantings. Opens Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd May.
A magical, artistic plantsman’s paradise, planted for year-round interest using a tapestry of foliage as well as floral interest. The garden is arranged as a series of connected areas that flow between two properties: the old gardener’s cottage and the old stables. Often compared to a mini Petersham Nursery by our visitors, we have a gift shop selling garden paraphernalia and a lovely café area. Opens Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th May.
A delightful garden with borders arranged with colour in mind: silvers and white, olive trees blend with nicotiana and senecio. A weeping silver birch leads to the oranges and yellows of a tropical bed with large bottle brush, hardy palms, and Fatsia japonica. Large rockery and an informal pond. There is a display of hostas, Cytisus battandieri, and a selection of grasses in an island bed. Opens Saturday 23rd May.

A reward for the sure footed: many steps lead to three levels! Mature kiwi and grape vines. Mixed borders and raised vegetable beds. Bay, cork oak, and yew topiaries. An amphitheatre of potted plants lines the lower steps, while the top garden offers stunning views of Caterham and Whyteleafe. An olive tree floats on a circular pond of white and pink flowers.
