South Powys has a new County Organiser
Volunteers are a vital part of our organisation here at the National garden Scheme, so we are delighted to welcome on board Christine Carrow as the new County Organiser for South Powys.
Rosamund Davies, Wales and the Marches Regional Chair and National Garden Scheme Trustee, was delighted to meet with Christine a few weeks ago and discuss this role over lunch. She said “Chris’s enthusiastic personality and dedication over the years as an Assistant County Organiser has put her in good stead for the role of County Organiser. I have every confidence in her. Her love of baking and gardening go hand in hand!!”
Christine and her husband, Steve, have been opening their garden, Tyn y Cwm at Beulah for 6 years and really appreciate the enjoyment people get from visiting gardens. Christine says she is “excited and honoured to have this opportunity to encourage the owners of magnificent gardens in Breconshire and Radnorshire to share them for the benefit of such worthy charities.” She said that Marie Curie and Macmillan are very close to her heart as their support made it possible for both her parents to spend their final days at home.
Christine is supported by her husband Steve who is Treasurer for South Powys and wants to see the team expand so that it can help many more generous garden owners in the area from Llandindrod Wells in the north to Chrickhowell in the south to open their gardens through the National Garden Sheme. Perhaps you’d like to join the team. There are many ways in which you can help including publicising gardens as they open, helping owners new to the National Garden Scheme register their gardens and prepare for opening and supporting garden owners on their open days. Although knowledge of gardens is always helpful, the main requirement is good organisational skills and being happy to work as part of a team. If you are over 16 years old, have an enthusiasm for gardens, the natural world and fundraising, and have time to help in the summer, Christine would love to hear from you or take a look at more ways to get involved here.
