About The Gig House

A cottage garden with different areas, developed over the years. Accessed via a shady woodland path leading to two beds, originally planted as dry beds, and now shaded by a walnut tree. A central path down the steps opens onto a space with geometric beds of flowers for cutting on the left and a shaded, sloping woodland glade with hostas, foxgloves and small trees on the right.

Through the arches are the vegetables and beyond the wooden gate is a small orchard of cider apples and a patch of wildflowers and grasses that are allowed to grow rampant at the end of the garden. Here, the circular wild lawn is hemmed in with hornbeam hedging and features more classic perennials and roses. A small pond is home to newts and frequented by dragonflies, damsel flies and grass snakes.
