The Old Rectory

Scratch built in June 2019 after the 300m² garden was removed down to 40cm, then new topsoil and returfed. By summer 2021 the garden was well established. Some formal areas and a range of plants with acers, salvias, lilies, roses, cypresses and boxes. New flower bed, new trees and plants added in 2023. If June 2024 is as glorious as 2023 then our garden will be spectacular.

About The Old Rectory

We arrived at the Old Rectory in September 2018 to just a lawn laid wall to fence! The garden proved unworkable so was stripped bare and literately reborn at the beginning of June 2019.

June meant rush planting and although we had brought some mature plants with us – Acer, Box, Cypress etc. we inevitably miscalculated the vigour of some plants meaning the garden has been in constant flux as we reposition and add new interest.

Summer 2020 saw the garden quite established but Autumn was busy as we try to improve various aspects.

We had everything ‘almost’ right for the first NGS open days but still, there was plenty to reposition. Our favourites are Salvias, Lillies and of course Roses – we have some French Roses including a ‘Rosa Cocktail’. The front garden has also been re-formed. We also found time to build a bespoke climbing frame and slide for our four grandchildren.

In 2023, the garden was fully mature but we still add and move stuff around! If June 2024 is as glorious as 2023 then our garden will be spectacular.

Parking for 4 cars only. Admission is combined with the garden at The Shrubbery opposite The Old Rectory.
