About 1 The Wheelwrights
Very small terraced walled garden with Hornton stone retaining walls, paving and steps.
The first terrace is a gravelled and paved area with a bench and a small island bed with water feature, plus seasonal planting in containers. Pine, flowering cherry and acer trees pruned in a Japanese style on the wall-top.
Herbaceous planting featuring Iris Sibirica, Allium, Thalictrum and Euphorbia on the middle terrace which also includes a small pond and a mature wisteria on the west-facing wall.
The top terrace consists of a gravel area surrounded by a mixed informal herbaceous planting with topiarised box and fastigiate yews. A large container to each side at the top of the garden adds structure, one container featuring a pine being trained in a Japanese style, the other with a seasonal planting.
The garden is designed for year-round interest with a mixture of structural plants, sculpture and other garden features. Herbaceous plants chosen for wide flowering period and seasonal planting in containers. The garden is at its most colourful in late spring / early summer but there is at least one plant in flower at any time of the year.
Access to the garden is via a flight of steps and the garden itself has several steps and some uneven surfaces so is not suitable for walking impaired visitors. Due to the very small size of the garden it may be necessary to limit the number of people allowed into the garden at one time. Please be patient if you are asked to wait before entering the garden.
