About 26 Parc y Fro
A modest size garden that has recently been replanted following a period of neglect. The current owner purchase the garden in June 2019 and set about clearing the overgrowth shortly after. However due to the number of Brambles and Horsetail (often called mare’s tail), along with shrubs that had become severely overgrown or were simply planted in the wrong places only 3 plants where able to be saved. This actually created the opportunity to start form a (more or less) blank canvas.
The garden is situated in a semi rural village and the owner wanted a cottage style garden with wildlife at its heart, so the transformation began in Spring of 2020. The first task was to dig a wildlife pond. Fortunately the orientation of the garden and the ability to create nearby cover meant it could be located in the centre of the garden This means the pond can be enjoyed during all seasons and weathers. Along with the pond the garden consists of a number of distinct areas, and while it is a modest size thought has been given to creating a journey through the garden with paths and seating areas. These including a pergola which will become festooned in Wisteria and Jasmine over time. Next to the pond is a rockery, there is a “hot” boarder with a row of native Beech hedging being grown behind and a second boarder with a cooler planting scheme. A corner planted with shade loving plants and a log pile, some well maintained lawns and a patio with terracotta containers at either end complete the garden.
The front garden provides a contrast with a more formal planting style. Here you’ll find a neat Griselinia hedge is in the process of being grown for privacy, a boarder planted with grasses and two standard bay trees stand either side of the garage. Both the hedge and the grasses standout against the dark railway sleeper edging and the purple slate ground cover.
