About 40 Chartfield Avenue
If you would like to see a sunny garden built from scratch on a sloping site then please do come and visit.
Taking inspiration from the borrowed landscape, the garden is planted with swathes of perennials in deep beds around a circular lawn interspersed with structural evergreens to create a contrast with the naturalistic habitat.
A tighter treatment can be seen around the terrace with repeating forms adding unity and gravitas. The kitchen garden is a developing addition along with the gravel garden and pergola.
There are several sheltered seating areas, some are under the trees planted 15 years ago. In total we have planted 30 new trees. A particular delight are the two gleditsia trees now several metres tall in their shimmering glory.
Featured in the TV programme ‘Under the Roses’ alongside other NGS gardens.
Tea, cake and music on the terrace. Easy parking and good transport links. Combined opening with 39 Hazlewell Road (2 minute walk).
