About Aberystwyth Allotments
The allotment site is situated alongside the River Rheidol close to Aberystwyth. It was created over 35 years ago, and during this time the plots have seen rapid improvements in soil quality and crop production, resulting in very impressive crops of vegetables in both variety and health. Many of the allotment holders are keen on growing ‘companion planting’ among their vegetables which not only attracts buzzing pollinators but also draws beneficial insect predators which help control pests and promote healthy crops. In addition to flowers, herbs and vegetables, fruit trees were planted in the early years, and these now produce fine crops of apples, pears, plums etc. Several of the gardeners have years of gardening experience, they will be there on the Open Day to guide visitors around the plots and they will be only too pleased to pass on gardening tips and advice to visitors.
