About Avenue Cottage

A peaceful, 11 acre woodland valley garden, forming part of the Grade 2* historic Sharpham House Landscape. The garden contains many rare and unusual trees and shrubs with views over the River Dart AONB, Sharpham and the surrounding countryside. Spring Magnolias are followed by a collection of scented azaleas. Later there are Eucryphias, Hoherias and many Hydrangeas including macrophyllas in the purple/blue spectrum doing especially well. A spring rises in the garden under a spectacularly large Rhododendron and feeds two ponds and a small stream running through a meadow with mown paths. There is also a stumpery made with trees felled on site in 1944. It is a naturalistic garden with plenty of room for wild flowers.
