About Blakelow Farm
Blakelow Farm was once a small dairy farm. What is now the main house was two cottages and stables and the two adjacent barns have been converted into separate living accommodation and a garage. All the buildings are local stone with stone roofs and some parts date from 17th century. The garden goes down a hill to a stream and pond and carries on up the other side. What were heavily sloping grass fields have been levelled around the house, and terraced or landscaped creating intriguing routes through the garden. The field opposite the house has been planted with trees in two stages, around the edge about 30 years ago and in the centre 5 years ago, when a Woodland Trust grant supported us planting about 600 trees. A march to the top is good exercise, there is a seat there and the view is rewarding.
There are borders around the house which are maintained, they are mature but we are always planting new things. Much of the rest of the garden is looked after for wildlife or for our food. We will be serving tea with jams made from our garden and are happy to talk about the 25 years of creating our garden.
Please note that we are about 1 mile from the Peak District National Park and the famous Cat and Fiddle road, 1/2 mile from Macclesfield Canal and June 29th is Treacle Market (arts, crafts, food) in town centre.
