About Bonython Manor
Situated on the Lizard Peninsula (southernmost point of the British Isles), Bonython Estate in recent years, the gardens progress from formal and modern, including a contemporary water feature around the delightful Georgian Manor House, through an eighteenth century walled garden with colour-themed herbaceous borders, to a potager and orchard filled with Cornish apple trees, through parkland to a series of three small lakes in a sheltered valley. Each lake with a different atmosphere and planting – ‘Tranquility’ from specimen trees and shrubs reflected in the water; ‘Vibrant Colour’ from the hot, South African summer garden and ‘Exotic’ from the mysterious Quarry Lake with creeper clad cliffs, a fernery and surrounding bamboos. Magnificent in spring with traditional Cornish rhododendrons, azaleas, woodland flowers and bulbs, colour continues to improve through the summer with soft and gentle harmonies of the herbaceous beds to explosions of hot colour in the South African areas with drifts of ornamental grasses, cannas, rubeckias and proteas. A ‘must see’ for all seasons. Tea and home-made cakes are available in the Thatched Summer House and plants are available to purchase from The Walled Garden Potager. Group visits are welcome and guided garden tours are available, both by arrangement.
