About Christmas Common Gardens

At one of the highest points of the Chilterns area of AONB, the hamlet of Christmas Common has a shorter season of interest. Visitors to this picturesque area can explore three distinct gardens, each offering their own charm and character.
One of the gardens spans over 1¾ acres with a mixture of shrub and tree planting along with a tall treehouse. The other features a stunning wildlife pond, also home to Koi Carp, which are separated from the natural habitat by an island. Adjacent to this area is a formal section that includes a lily pond. The other garden has a relaxed and informal cottage atmosphere, where a meandering path allows visitors to wander through herbaceous beds.

Priors Grove Cottage: Set on more than half an acre and bordered by woodland, this six-year-old garden is focussed around a large wildlife pond and waterfall. Koi Carp are separated from the surrounding wildlife through the creation of an island with planting. Additionally, a formal lily pond can be found on the terrace. The garden blends a mixture of shrubs and herbaceous plants, ensuring vibrant displays throughout the year. There is partial wheelchair access via paths and the main lawn.
Meadow Cottage: This enchanting 1¾-acre garden adjoins ancient woodlands and includes a wildflower garden, a tranquil pond, fruit trees, and a variety of shrubs and hedging. A tall treehouse can be climbed by children under supervision. The garden has indigenous trees and features a historic C17 barn (not open to the public). There is partial wheelchair access via a gravel driveway and lawns.
The Old Church Hall: This charming cottage garden embraces a relaxed and informal style, allowing many self-seeded varieties to flourish naturally. Colourful and interesting herbaceous beds flank the lawn path, which leads around the garden.
