About Cumberland House
Cumberland House is a Georgian village house (not open) with three-quarters of an acre of garden. The gardens immediately behind the house are walled and landscaped on different levels to create a series of rooms. Of particular note are two mature and rare Ginkgo biloba trees. The lawn areas are bounded by Yew topiary, and there are well-stocked flower beds with old roses and a combination of exotic and traditional plants, designed to provide colour throughout the year. York Stone paths lead to a pergola covered in wisteria and roses, a fish pond and a variety of seating areas giving different views of the house, the church and the recently restored small 17thC barn. Beyond the walled garden is a more informal area with a lawn shaded by a mature Copper Beech tree, vegetable and herb beds, a fruit cage and woodland planting. Pleached Limes form a tall screen at the end of the garden.
