About Friars Court
Three acres of formal, and informal, gardens are within the remaining arms of a C16 moat which partially surrounds the large C17 Cotswold stone house, home to the Willmer family for over 100 years. The grounds divide naturally into smaller areas each with a subtly distinct ‘feel’ so, in one part of the grounds the paved Privy Garden sits beside the romantic Rose Garden which is adjacent to the wilder Courtyard Garden. Beyond the expanse of lawn to the front of the house are restored water-lily-filled carp ponds edged with native wild marginal plants and a living willow tunnel. A level path winds around part of the garden while two flat, and one arched, bridge span the moat.
A museum detailing the history of Friars Court is located in the old Coach House.
