About High Trees

John Richards is a keen grower of alpines and has travelled the world to see plants in their native habitats. He is Emeritus Professor of Botany at the University of Newcastle and ran Moorbank Botanic Garden in Newcastle. He and his wife, Sheila, have created this garden over the last 35 years and it is Sheila who has planted borders full of day lilies, euphorbias, bistort and geums. This is a layered garden with tall trees and unusual shrubs, tree peonies and ferns down to tiny alpines.
