About Hightown Gardens
Hightown is situated on the edge of the River Mersey and the mouth of the Alt, with views across to Wirral and the Welsh Hills beyond. The surrounding land is cultivated farmland. Most of the village is built on previous sand hills, so the soil is very sandy and poor – great for seedlings, hard for established plants to find nutrient.
The five gardens are an interesting collection, close together, and it is an easy drive/walk around the village. They are all quite different and have cottage garden plants as well as more tropical varieties. Blossom and quirkiness are both present.
