About Little Dale Wildlife Garden
We moved here in 2002 and the first thing we did was construct a 7x5m raised pond to house our koi carp from our previous pond. Since the koi have moved to their new home and the pond has gone, we’ve focussed on the garden in recent years with the aim of encouraging birds, bees and butterflies into our garden. With wildlife friendly borders, ‘No Mow’ lawn and trees marking the end of the garden underplanted with even more wildflowers the garden buzzes all summer long.
A lavender border around our gravel garden provides a beautiful aroma and encourages the bees. We’ve also included night scented planting for the moths.
We are keen recyclers and have upcycled many pieces from old metal filing cabinets, glass bottle and tin can edging, cable drum tables, tin can planters and golf ball cane toppers. Look out for the optical illusion mirrors 🙂
We have quite a collection of houseplants which come outside for their summer holidays when the weather is right!
Our greenhouse is in a sunny corner and is a focal point allowing us to get the growing year off to a flying start. Our favourite plants being tomatoes and chilies.
The lawn has been allowed to grow and meadow flowers introduced with mown paths creating access to the greenhouse and borders.
It’s not all about gardening though, it’s as important to relax and enjoy being in the garden and we do so all year round thanks to our covered seating area.
