About North Luffenham Hall
A six acre garden consisting of:
Topiary formal gardens surround the 16 Century old hall, leading out onto the sunken formal pond, which in turn leads to the octagonal pond beneath the beautiful beech tree, this in turn trickles down to the nature pond.
To the north of the house lies three glasshouses and the fruit trees, along with the vegetable patch.
Further along there is a large pergola, where the five bee hives are now kept, so be careful…
Down towards the 40 acres of Rewilding area, where several ponds were created in 2022. These are proving to be abundant in native flora and fauna.
On the edge of this area you’ll find the water garden, designed and built, by the famous Russel Paige, in 1928. This has been rediscovered and cleared in the past two years, to reveal, stone walls and pathways, and of course the spring which supplies the stream with a constant water flow.
Gillian Durno Paintings The extensive rewilded grounds adjoining her studio at North Luffenham Hall and the beautiful surrounding Rutland countryside, are a great source of inspiration for Gillian’s work. Set in the grounds of The Hall, Gillian is very fortunate to have a studio where she works and creates original mixed media floral and landscape paintings for galleries, private clients and other retail outlets. Gillian will have her studio open on the day of the NGS open gardens event, where visitors will be able to peruse her studio and talk to her about her work. There will be cards, limited edition prints and original paintings for sale. A 20 % percentage of sales on the day will be donated to the NGS charity.
