About Oak Lodge, 44 Stoke Hill
Oak Lodge is a country garden in an urban setting. As you walk past the front of the house and through a narrow gate the garden vista opens out before you and might surprise you with its size. In total extending to half an acre, the garden sits comfortably within its original Georgian stone walled curtilage. A variety of different garden areas include herbaceous borders, yew hedging, mixed beds, privet trees and extensive lawns. At the heart of the garden sits a beautiful weeping silver birch providing both cover for wildlife and welcome shade from the hot midday sun. Hiding away in one of the lower beds is a shepherd’s hut which provides a quiet spot to retreat with a good book. As you move up the lawned area there are a number of brick patios which lead to a tennis court at the top of the garden. On the west side of the main garden is an enclosed paved courtyard which is the home for predominately potted plants. There are three steps and a low branched tree to negotiate in accessing the front of the house but thereafter the garden is level.
