About Otley Hall

Here is a garden made by many hands over many centuries. Disaster, decay, folly and happenstance gives an air of antiquity.

Fresh eyes and focused energy bring new ideas that will seed and grow around and about the remnants of the past. A new chapter has now begun. It will be what it will be, but it is always Otley Hall. Patience, perseverance, happiness and occasional madness. All should prevail.

In 1915 a plan for the grounds was made by artist and garden designer Francis Inigo Thomas. The plan was never realised but have remained within the hall. This provides inspiration for future developments.

More recently some historical features were added. Designed by Sylvia Landsberg they echo the medieval to Elizabethan periods. These are not treated like museum exhibits; they develop and evolve like any garden but are always infused with historical spirit.
