Piecemeal

Tucked behind early C19 cottages, a very small, walled garden featuring a wide range of unusual shrubs, many flowering and most displayed in around 400 terracotta pots bordering narrow paths. Also climbers, perennials and even a few trees! Focus is on distinctive form, foliage shape and colour combination. Collection of ferns around well. Half-hardy and tender plants fill the conservatory.

About Piecemeal

Come and see which plants can be successfully grown in pots in a small space!

This very large plant collection has been assembled over many years and the garden has evolved rather than been designed, following acquisition of very small parcels of additional land, although now the whole is only a mere 10 square metres! Many shrubs are from SE Asia and the southern hemisphere, particularly Australasia and South America, some borderline hardy yet they seem to thrive in such a sheltered environment. As well as roses and clematis, the current list includes desfontainea, scheffleras, pittosporums, colquhounia, abutilons, lomatias, olearias, fuchsias, cestrums, a number of pseudopanax and many more. An up-to-date list is available by email on request.
