County house garden with woodland walks, arboreta, and ponds in parkland setting with magnificent views, facing two World Heritage Sites, the Lake District National Park to the south and Hadrian’s Wall to the west on the Solway with Scotland and Criffel beyond.
A large and remarkable collection of trees, some ancient, including dogwood, rowan, maple, oak, beech, hornbeam, white beam, ash, wing nut, tulip, redwood, lime, larch, pine, buckeye, horse chestnut, sweet chestnut, hawthorn, poplar, cedar and cherry with some unusual specimens like handkerchief, pond cypress, snowdrop-tree, ginkgo, parrotia, katsura and manuka tea trees with many cricket bat willows, dotted about.
