About Stoneleigh
Adjacent to the unusual Real Tennis Court in Walditch, Stoneleigh sits on the edge of the village green and nestles at the base of a tall hill which reaches 250 feet above the village. The garden stretching to just over an acre has this as its backdrop.
The garden is approached from a path beside a large rockery and opens to well stocked and colourful borders and undulating lawns. Two small ponds are fed from a spring and joined by a stream running among large Portland rocks that wrap around a bed of ornamental grasses. A willow tunnel (a work in progress) leads to a field gate, while an old stone barn, covered in clematis and roses, provides a pretty feature.
A raised seating area is surrounded by fragrant lavender and has at its centre a fish pond with fountain.
A Victorian style greenhouse sits next to an enclosed vegetable area with raised beds and fruit cage.
All this while buzzards ride the ridge above and swallows dart in and out of the barn feeding their young.
