About The Carpenter's Lodge
We moved here two years ago having mainly owned gardens in Sussex where the soil and climate is very different to here, and this garden consisted of large and immature trees and some shrubs, but with very little planting. Therefore new planting of shrubs and perennials is by trial and error because of the different conditions in the newly divided garden.
The Cotinus, beech, silver birch and laburnum should be particularly splendid at this time, and the Dicentra spectabilis, peonies and poppies should still be in flower. We are particularly keen to encourage wildlife with many nesting birds, bees and butterflies present. We garden organically and focus on complimentary planting in the allotment area, instead of using pesticides. We also use calendula and nasturtium as sacrificial planting.
