Greenhouses and allotments for raising bedding plants, educational workshops and growing fruit and vegetables. Walks through the Woodland Dell and Sensory area. Large variety of plants and produce for sale.

About The Gates

Tucked away in a corner of the tranquil surroundings of the London Road Cemetery The Gates horticultural project has transformed the site of the old Council Nurseries into a growing oasis.

Forming part of the Frontline Partnership, a non-profit making Brentwood based charity, The Gates gives the opportunity for vulnerable adults to develop new skills within a safe and caring environment that offers a wide range of horticultural activities including safe garden management, growing fruit and vegetables, gardening workshops and bee keeping. It is an opportunity to see the results of our fundraising efforts so far and our commitment to recycling and repurposing.

The extensive site comprises of large greenhouses which are used for raising bedding plants educational workshops, while the allotments provide ample space to raise fruit and vegetables.

Away from the productive areas, enjoy a walk through The Dell amongst the mature trees via a small pond, stumpery and seating area for concerts. The sensory walk takes you through vines, grasses and fragrant planting surrounding a recently completed mosaic. There are plenty of seating areas around the site to sit and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Enjoy refreshments and take the opportunity to purchase from the wide range of plants and organic produce that will be for sale.

Enter the Cemetery (opp Tesco Express). Drive to the rear of the cemetery, our garden is on L. Limited parking within but plenty on the surrounding roads.
