About The Glebe
Owner moved to Badby in Spring 2021; she inherited a garden that had been neglected for many years and had fallen into disrepair. Very large trees border the garden, but are not in the property and they provide a wonderful backdrop and sheltered feel. Over the winter of 2021, the owner formulated ideas of what would work for her and her dogs – an important part of the equation.
She also then started clearing rubbish from the garden – including excavating a ‘pit’ full of debris on the top patio. It turned out that the pit was the remains of a concrete bund, still sound, and that has formed the base for a new pond. In addition, the pit contained a number of rocks of local stone that have now been incorporated into the bedding.
In July 2022, work commenced and was carried out by a very professional and experienced team of landscapers. The brief was to help develop a garden that sat comfortably in its’ environment. A new patio was built using Indian Sandstone plus a large deck over an old area of grass that was in very poor condition. A corner pergola was built on the deck for seating and a large border was left at the back to enhance the woodland feel. Spacious steps in a fan shape were built to give access to the top patio and provide planting space for pots along the edge. The garden is open, but over time, it is hoped that the planting and placement of pots etc will encourage the feel of different rooms to provide interest. In addition, old fencing was replaced and a new lawn laid in the Autumn. The garden is still very much a work in progress but as far as possible has been future proofed in terms of the hard landscaping. The owner is looking forward to developing its’ character and bring out the very best in it over the coming years.
