About The Old Dairy House
The house is in Trentham Park which is adjacent to Trentham Gardens. The Trentham Estate was the former home of the Dukes of Sutherland and still extends to 750 acres. The Hall was demolished in 1911.
The Old Dairy House was built in the 1870’s and, like the Hunting Lodge and other buildings on the estate, was built in a black and white mock Tudor style. Though used as a dower house in the early 1900’s for the Duchess of Sutherland, the house was primarily a working building and the hexagonal Dairy Room reaching up to 32 foot at the top of the dome was used to make butter and cheese.
