Trustwood

Trustwood is a typical relaxed country garden of ¾ acre. Our aim over the past twelve years has been to create a haven for wildlife. The garden has three distinct areas with more formal planting to the rear of the house with a pergola and deep herbaceous borders, a large area of raised beds for fruit, flowers and vegetables to the front, and finally an area of woodland which is being developed.

About Trustwood

Trustwood is three quarters of an acre of woodland garden, featuring deep flower beds and two small ponds.

Over the past twelve years we have gradually developed the garden to encourage more wildlife. Our projects have included rejuvenating an old hedge by removing large sycamore trees and replanting with British native species, and in the garden by using plants that are insect friendly. The front garden (once a full sized hard tennis court) has raised beds with a mix of vegetables, fruit trees and flowers that attract pollinators. Our two ponds provide a home for frogs, newts and other water creatures.

During the last few years we have noticed the result of reduced rainfall on the garden and the stress put on some of the shrubs and plants. Summer 2022 was particularly challenging. To try and counter this we have added even more water butts, increased our use of compost and mulch to try and lock in moisture and redesigned several of the beds with more drought resistant plants.

As a B&B many of our guests enjoy the garden and appreciate the peace and quiet of the woodland location.
