About Wolsey Farmhouse
We have lived at Wolsey House Farm since 2008 and have slowly renovated some of the barns for holiday cottages and created the lawn areas around the buildings from the old farm yard. Not much has changed in the walled garden except for the box hedging around the rose borders and the planting of the beech hedge to separate this formal area from the orchard. Over the years we have looked after goats, sheep and hens for which we fenced the paddock. The hedges around the perimeter of the property were quite new when we moved here so we have cut them yearly and also selected some hedging plants to grow into trees and are currrently nurturing three Horse Chestnut trees found in the hedges.
Work to create the prairie garden started early in 2021 with a design by Sue Townsend; landscaping commenced in August 2021 and the first four borders planted in September 2021 – in a very hot and dry spell of weather. The second tranche of planting occurred in April 2022 after which the moat was nearly drained dry in order to water all the new plants during another hot and dry summer that year.
Sadly, the vegetable garden is a bit neglected as we are consumed by other work in the garden but we do try to grow a few good veggies each year.
