1 Abbotswell Cottages

This pretty cottage garden is divided into 'rooms' by stone walls and the clever use of trellis and archways supporting climbing plants. These areas inc a herb garden, herbaceous borders, a shady sloping woodland retreat, bog garden bordering a natural stream and a small vegetable plot. This development was started in July 2010 and is still ongoing.

About 1 Abbotswell Cottages

Unable to describe myself as plantswoman or designer, I am someone who has spent a lifetime with gardening as my hobby. We moved to 1, Abbotswell Cottages in the very hot summer of July 2010 with around 100 pots of sentimental and favourite plants, gasping for release into their new home. With the support of my husband and two sons, tons of builders’ rubble and a few rusty bicycles etc. were removed to the tip. We dug the first border and built arches with trellis, and friends arrived armed with more plants and cuttings. The ultimate aim is to create a year-round country garden full of colour and perfume, where we can sit and entertain and the grandchildren can play safely.
