21 Becklake Close

This garden aims to reflect the love of Japan that Karen and Steve have had for many years. This stems from a long fascination and practice of the Japanese martial arts and several visits to the country to take part in Japanese culture. The style is based on ordinary Japanese gardens, and although small it is bigger than many gardens attached to similar homes found in small Japanese towns.

About 21 Becklake Close

While not all the plants are from Japan, many are. The zoning aims to invite people to have a look around and feel that they have seen different aspects of the garden and indeed of Japan.
It has been described by a Japanese family to be the the most Japanese garden they had ever seen.
There is a tribute to the 47 Ronin that Karen and Steve will happily explain. This is a work in progress at the time of writing. This aims to explain the Budo spirit and there is a Shinto feel to the way the garden has developed.
It is hoped that this Far Eastern feeling experience will enhance the Barnstaple World Garden visit for all who choose to come along.
