About 30 Orchard Green
RHS Gold Medal winning garden designer, Sara Edwards, a self-confessed plant addict, completely redesigned her own back garden to accommodate her ever increasing, eclectic collection of plants, chosen predominantly because of their interesting foliage forms, textures, and coloured stems. Completed in September 2020, it’s now in its fourth year, and really getting into its stride.
Features include a sunken firepit surrounded by a lush canopy of shade loving plants including a three headed tree fern, and Ricinus, grown annually from seed; two small ponds with a small stream, and a hexagonal cedar pergola trained with evergreen climbers.
Surrounding the house is a large, floating deck, which has several sunken beds, including a sand garden which displays Sara’s collection of aeoniums and other succulents during the summer, which then overwinter in her cedar greenhouse.
Favourites plants are various schefflera, evergreen euphorbias, and any plant ending with ‘panax’, including the giant tetrapanax papyrifer. By late summer the dramatic foliage is towering above the beds, filtering the September sunlight.
