About 63 Wolsey Drive
We inherited a large 120ft garden 12 years ago, mostly laid to lawn with shrub borders to edges, sheds, neglected allotment and a wooden greenhouse.
The garden backs onto what are known as the ‘Walton Oaks’ approximately 20+ trees that once lined a Great Lake and estate in the area, creating privacy to the garden.
Our decision was always to have more plants, to not only attract pollinators and wildlife, but enhance the space and create a lush feel to the garden.
We wanted to create different areas to sit, dine and lounge making the most of the views and sun as it travels across the garden in the day.
We’ve Incorporating 5 seating areas, established a new allotment and pond, working to maintain some of the existing plants but adding many more to give vertical and horizontal interest all year around. Incorporating 8 trees – some existing- has enabled us to achieve the intended purpose.
Over the last 10 years, we have transformed the space using our horticultural and design backgrounds to create a unique family space for us and our now grown up children.
Although we had a plan in mind, the garden has evolved bit by bit as we had time to do it.
Removing the lawn and creating planting beds with gravel paths. A raised bridge through the centre has created a new journey through the garden to the covered dining area at the end. We’ve harnessed scented plants such as nepeta, tracheleospermum and lonicera adjacent to the seating areas enhancing a colour palette of mainly purple, orange, white and green.
A composting space hidden at the end ensures we recycle any plant material – including leaves from the mighty oaks – to use for mulching in the Autumn.
