About 9 Puttock Way

This unexpected delight of a garden has people regularly enquiring about it as they see unusual plants appearing over the wall along its boundary. The garden was built from scratch by two very passionate, but novice, gardeners, who have juggled the project alongside busy lives at work and a large young family.

The garden has been a labour of love, crafting what was a bare, heavily compacted wedge left behind by builders. Work to sculpt the slope began during lockdown and continued to develop alongside additions to the family and growing dreams for the space. It is a space full of interest and structure, interspersed with flowers and produce.

The owners have used a range of complementary materials to divide the space into smaller, terraced sections including Corten steel and self-binding aggregate. A zigzagging pontoon seems to float through the lush, verdant planting totally immersing you in the space. In fact, the garden is so jam packed with plants that on occasion you have to brush through them to make your way around.

The tiny plot also boasts a modern greenhouse (where many of the annuals grown from seed are tended to by the family’s children) and a reclaimed galvanised tank as a small pond.

Both Simon and Emma have inherited a true love of gardening from their parents and grandparents, the garden allows them to share this with their own children.

Home-made cake, tea and coffee available.
