About Am Brook Meadow
Am Brook Meadow was originally an intensive pig farm. After a three-year demolition programme, the owners set about landscaping and establishing a garden.
A 20-ton digger was purchased and the two large ponds were excavated. The resulting spoils were used to establish two long perennial borders directly in front of the house.
These are seen at their best in June & July. They are planted with robust late flowering perennials such as Veronicastrum, Eupatorium, Echinacea & Persicaria.
The large native perennial meadow as you enter from the car park is also thriving at this time, with many Knapweed, Meadow Scabious & Geranium.
The courtyard reaches it peak in early July & is planted with lots of climbers & drought resistant plants as such as Perovskia, Nepeta & Stipa Gigantea.
With two streams running through the garden there is an abundance of wildlife.
It’s not unusual to see kingfishers & there are usually resident swans with their young to be enjoyed, together with moorhens, diving ducks & little grebes.
