Badminton House

Explore the private gardens of the historic Badminton House from the formal beds to the South Garden with its water squares, hedges, beds and borders. Glorious displays of roses and borders of summer colours are combined with herbaceous perennials. The Walled Garden is home to the kitchen garden, providing fruit, vegetables and cut flowers for much of the yr. The greenhouse is used for propagation and houses a fine display of pelargoniums.

About Badminton House

Designed by Russell Page and Francois Goffinet, Badminton House gardens combine formality, structure and an abundance of plants for all seasons. The Duchess of Beaufort works closely with the gardeners in both the Walled Garden and the gardens around the house and continues to build on the work of her predecessors.

With their formal design and informal planting the main gardens wrap neatly around the elegant Badminton House. The South Garden is geometric in style, including 16 box beds filled with roses as well as symmetrical water squares, hedges and large borders.

On the East Front of the house are two magnificent conservatories, both of which house spectacular examples of the climbing geranium ‘Millfield Gem’. The elegant Orangery overlooks the ‘swimming pond’ with its central fountain and just beyond is the dog pool, which, despite the planting around it, is just that.

There is also a large and productive Walled Garden, which provides cut flowers including tulips, peonies, roses, dahlias and asters, and plenty of produce for the house and the kitchens. The archway, which runs the full length of the Walled Garden, is covered with roses, clematis, wisteria and yellow laburnum.

A limited number of tickets have been made available for this special opening by kind permission of the owners, the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort. We regret no dogs are allowed in the private gardens, with the exception of assistance dogs.
