About Berwick Lodge
The garden has been extensively developed by Head Gardener Robert Dunster, former gardener to Prince Charles at Highgrove. The recently restored orchard is home to many varieties of fruit trees, and is located close to the wildflower meadow. The Victorian summerhouse is surrounded by hydrangea and a lavender border. Large ancient specimen trees stand proudly in the grounds, the elegant pergola is decorated with charming wisteria and clematis. The vast naturalistic herbaceous border with ornamental grasses is best seen July to October, for its magnificent colours, attracting bees, butterflies, moths and beneficial insects. There are two bee hives, one in a barrel up a tree! With a cutting garden full to the brim with vibrant annuals, the garden truly buzzes! A small herb garden offers ingredients for use in our menus. A thriving colony of House Martins can be seen darting about. Renovation planned of a wildlife pond will extend habitats and offer further sanctuary to what has become a haven for wildlife.
