About Bishop's Waltham Gardens
Bishop's Waltham is a medieval market town with a well-preserved High Street. It is the source of the Hamble River and has a ruined medieval palace. Albion Cottage has a courtyard full of planted ceramic pots, a patio and cottage style side garden with a deep fish pond. All paths are made from reclaimed paving. Almost all pots and the greenhouse are preloved. Many plants are from cuttings or seedlings. This tiny garden is wildlife friendly with a profusion of birds and insects. Bishop's Waltham in Bloom, 1st prize for ‘Best Display in a Private Residence’. 9 Colville Drive has an illusion of space created in the compact urban garden by a zig-zagging path that reveals shaded spots hidden from the house's view. A stream tumbles from rocks wending its way between two ponds attracting a rich variety of wildlife. The planting scheme highlights the chalky soil with a vivid display of colours from climbing plants, shrubs, dahlias, and begonias.
