Bretherton Gardens

A group of contrasting gardens spaced across an attractive award winning village with a conservation area. Hazelwood is a 1½ acre plant lover’s paradise with herbaceous and mixed borders, kitchen and cutting garden, alpine house, sculpture gallery, pond and plant nursery. At the sculpture gallery there are usually demonstrations at 2pm. Hazel Cottage’s former Victorian orchard plot has evolved into a series of themed spaces while the adjoining land has a natural pond, meadow and developing native woodland. Owl Barn has herbaceous borders filled with cottage garden and hardy plants, a productive kitchen garden with fruit, vegetables and cut flowers. There are two ponds with water features and secluded seating areas. Palatine is a garden of 3 contrasting spaces started in 2019 around a modern bungalow to attract wildlife and give year-round interest. In the same cul-de-sac Laneside is still a work in progress, the garden is on 3 sides of the bungalow, with mature shrubs and trees, a rose garden, perennials and a small fruit growing area. Also an inherited Woodland Walk which is a current project.
