About Broadhatch House

The house was built in the 1920s when the gardening fashion was for outdoor rooms enclosed by hedge walls and the bones of the original design remain. In the last thirty years we have taken out the double herbaceous borders facing the house and put the area down to grass and a reflection pool with crab apples. In the sunken garden we redesigned the colour scheme and beds. There is a spring garden under constant alteration. We are continually experimenting with wild flowers inside and outside with a good show of common spotted orchids in June. A three sided old vegetable walled garden has been much converted to flowering borders and lawns, but keeping a potager, fruitcage and two large original greenhouses.
