About Cae Hir Gardens

A Welsh Garden with a Dutch History, Cae Hir is a true family garden with real heart and soul. 5 acres of landscaped Welsh hillside provide visitors with a delightfully unassuming and tenable garden to explore, meander through, gaze at and sit in.

Cae Hir boasts a plethora of fabulous trees and swathes of innovative planting, punctured throughout by local slate stonework used in innovative as well as more traditional ways. Nature, gently steered, is largely in charge, providing a haven of serenity and tranquillity for visitors and wildlife alike. Cae Hir does not offer national collections neither does it specialise in anything in particular, which helps to ensure that balance and a naturalistic feel are not disturbed.
At Cae Hir the natural meets the formal and riotous planting meets structure and form. Lay-out is paramount, and the garden’s structural framework has been conceived in such a way that for the visitor, surprise is an ever-recurring pleasure. This is a garden not just for plant lovers, but also for design enthusiasts.

Cae Hir is an RHS Partner Garden, one of the Great Gardens of West Wales and was voted Wales’ 2nd Best Garden 2020 by readers of Garden News magazine. However most importantly it is a family garden; created, maintained and managed solely by the Akkermans family who moved to Wales from Holland in 1983, and who will offer you the warmest of welcomes.

Five acres of fully landscaped gardens. Tearoom serving a selection of homemade cakes and scones and a 'Soup of the Day'. Limited wheelchair access.
