Capability Barn

Imaginatively planted large country garden with something new each year. April brings displays of daffodils, hyacinths and tulips along with erythroniums, brunneras and primulas. Wisteria, magnolia, rhodos and apple blossom greet May/June. A backdrop of established trees, shrubs and shady paths give a charming country setting. Large vegetable/fruit gardens with orchard/meadow completes the picture.

About Capability Barn

The gardens of Capability Barn have been developed over the last 20 years. Initially there were several established trees on the property and these have been incorporated into the garden which now gives it an established feel. The garden is a typical country garden planted extensively with a wide variety of different plants including trees, shrubs herbaceous perennials and bulbs. There are also interesting views over the lovely Nottinghamshire countryside. The garden has many diverse conditions which allow a wide variety of plants to be grown. The sunny south facing border in front of the barn is a hot dry area while there are secluded wooded areas which are home to shade loving plants .There is also a large orchard and fruit and vegetable areas. In the spring the bulbs really come into their own with displays of tulips and erythroniums while hostas, delphiniums, rhododendrons and many other shrubs and perennials follow. Later in the summer dahlias and begonias are the stars. The Garden is continually evolving with new and interesting plants and features added regularly. Recently a wild flower meadow was started and this now has displays fritillarias and daffodils in the spring. There is usually something interesting in bloom in the greenhouses. The garden will be open this spring but small groups are welcome by appointment at other times. You are assured of a warm welcome and home-made teas.
