About Cats Whiskers

A plantsman’s garden developed over the last 40 years but which has kept its 1923 landscape.
The front garden whilst not particularly large is full of interesting trees and shrubs. There is a central Cornus, now so large that the grass below has been encouraged to naturalize bulbs and meadow flowers. Notably there are 4 different varieties of Ginkgo trees, an Acacia Pravissima which is a riot of yellow mimosa flowers in spring, also a Magnolia Nigra and Eucalyptus and others; the rear garden is on 3 levels with steps leading down to a narrow hidden garden with a fernery and further steps to the main space. Overlooking a small stream which leads to a bog garden is a magnolia grandiflora. At the end of the garden a pergola leads to the vegetable garden and greenhouse.
A large lawn is bordered by flowerbeds, a camellia border, tree paeonies, clematis and many other unusual trees, bulbs, shrubs and herbaceous perennials.
In early spring the soil is blue with chionodoxa
In 2023 the house and garden reached their century.
Wine/soft drinks and cake.
