About Chestlion House
Chestlion House is set next to the ancient village church on the site of a former medieval hall house. The garden surrounds the house (not open) and is walled to the rear of the property. It has been planted since the new owners acquired the house 10 years ago.
The front of the house has hedges of yew and holm oak complemented by box topiary and climbers. To the rear of the house there are three quarters of an acre of mixed planting, with many blowsy roses adorning the walls and soft romantic planting in borders. There is a circular meditative garden created from hornbeam and a round pond along with a productive kitchen and cutting garden along with a greenhouse and herb garden.
A feature of the garden is the circular motif of the different areas. There is a boat house and pond outside the walled area which in medieval times was a stew pond and a fairly newly planted wildflower meadow with a fruit tree avenue and a hornbeam avenue leading to the back entrance.
