The water feature is part of a larger Victorian hydrographic design - water diverted from Trott's Brook flows first into the former swimming pool at Mere Folly, then passing underground into the 'canal' that is the centerpiece of the formal garden at The Summerhouse. The canal is surrounded by a 3-tiered garden.
