About Elmton Gardens
Elmton village has much history. Archeological excavations have confirmed that there was occupation here since Anglo Saxon times, but finds of flints and arrowheads suggest that habitation has been here far longer. A village trail can be followed from a QR code taken from the information boards around the village. For more information see the Elmton appraisal on the Bolsover District Council website.
The Nearby Creswell Crags, is a limestone gorge with ice age rock art and the heritage centre is well worth a visit.
The much more recent occupants of the village enjoy their gardening in a lovely environment and do so in a myriad of ways. The limestone soil creates its own challenges and is very shallow in places. It also drains well which defines the type of plants that can be grown in the area. Climate change has made this doubly difficult, resulting in the change of normal opening date from the end of June.
