Hiraeth

⅓ acre gardens. The front has three barrels of ericaceous plants. A conifer bed, hydrangeas and a 300+ year old olive tree, monkey puzzle, acers, silver birch and various shrubs. The centre features a large piece Forest of Dean rock. A rose arch at one entrance. The rear garden has an oasis of colour created by numerous trees inc acers, weeping willow and weeping birch. A rose and hosta bed on one side and a fernery on the other. Various stone statues and metal sculptures on display containing a variety of animals inc an alligator or crocodile (we're not sure which!). A local minister has described the garden as 'a haven on the way to heaven'.

About Hiraeth

The garden is the brainchild of Sue Fletcher (owner) and in the early days she was mentored by Frank Hardy who had previously been the vice-Principal at Pershore Horticulture College and an acknowledged expert on all matters associated with gardening! The house was originally a show home and the garden planted with all the types of plants normally used by builders! These were gradually replaced or moved over the first 2 or 3 years after we moved in and then we were persuaded to open and share Sue’s creation with others. We chose to do this via the NGS because of their involvement with cancer charities and it seemed more appropriate as 3 of our 4 parents has died from cancer. Little did we realise 21 years ago, when we joined NGS, that our youngest son, Paul, would be taken from us some 8 years later, also by cancer. We have hosted a number of gardening clubs over the years, many of whom have told us the garden is inspirational and a pleasure to visit. We hope you have the same experience!
