HMP Kirkham

The prison has 150 acres of farm and grounds maintained by prisoners learning horticultural and agricultural skills. The site has gardens with herbaceous borders, lawns, heritage orchard, allotments, greenhouses, wildflower meadow, wellness garden, wildlife and fish ponds and extensive woodland. You will be accompanied by the farm managers who will give a guided tour of the farm and grounds.

About HMP Kirkham

The prison was formerly RAF Kirkham built in 1939 and used to train 72,000 British and allied services men and women until its closure in 1945. In 1962 it opened as a prison. The site retains many features from its time as an RAF base, including two runways which are now roads.

Visitors should park at the farm shop which is 1st R as you turn off Freckleton Rd for the prison. Overspill parking also avail in general visitor car park.
