About Langford Hall

Langford Hall, is a Grade2* listed country house, it was built in 1774 by John Carr of York in the neo-classical style. Originally constructed as a hunting lodge for Charles Slingsby Duncombe of Duncombe Park, North Yorkshire, it is situated in 83 acres. Over the years, the house has served as a residence for a number of families. In 1939, it was requisitioned by the Army but later became privately owned and transformed into the Dolphin Preparatory school for boys. Since 2009, Langford Hall has been the home of the Sumsion family.

The garden first opened for the NGS in July 1929 and then opened yearly until 1936. It is a great pleasure to open it again for its 250th birthday! The estate now features several distinctive areas. The expansive garden showcases vibrant perennial flower beds, while the rose garden boasts a captivating lily pond at its center. In the courtyard, a majestic mulberry tree stands tall, adding to the charm of the surroundings. The estate also encompasses a highly productive orchard, complete with a variety of fruits including apples, plums and trained apricots, pears, peaches and gages. Additionally, the presence of a small vegetable garden provides a further source of fresh produce. For those who appreciate nature, a woodland trail offers wildlife exploration opportunities. Finally, the parkland encompasses the open spaces that complete the estates historic setting.
