Lynsted Community Kitchen Garden

This ½ acre community garden is the work of an ever expanding group of local people who grow organic fruit and vegetables together, sharing all aspects of sowing, growing and harvesting. We follow a 'No Dig' approach with soil health, sustainable water management and composting being key elements of the garden. We keep bees and are working hard to improve the biodiversity of the garden.

About Lynsted Community Kitchen Garden

Lynsted Community Kitchen Garden (LCKG) started in 2021 – created by the community, for the community. It is constantly evolving as new members join and fresh ideas are adopted. Community and sustainability are at the core of all that we do. There is an important educational element to the garden too and we have open mornings throughout the year as well as regular visits from local schools. The success of the garden is down to the diverse range of skills that the volunteers bring to the garden – everyone’s input is invaluable. There are plans to expand the garden with a herb wellbeing area, a wildlife meadow and pond, as well as dreams of a small vineyard for community wine. The garden was recently awarded a prestigious silver award from the Kent Wildlife Trust. In addition LCKG, is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Community Gardens and of Social Farms and Gardens. Most recently, the community garden joined a working party, run by Bore Place, to develop the Good Food Movement in Kent.

Lynsted Community Kitchen Garden is set in a 7 acre field that is largely left wild but with small areas mown that can be used to sit down and picnic.
